Photography and Videography

StART will have a photographer and videographer onsite, and is seeking artists who are comfortable with, and enthusiastic about StART sharing event images and reels on social media featuring and celebrating participating artists.

OVERVIEW OF ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS

The deadline for applications is 7:30 p.m. on May 17th, 2024. In fairness to all applicants, submissions will not be accepted past this deadline.

Submissions will be reviewed by a diverse external Advisory Panel with lived experience as 2SLGBTQ+ community members and creatives.

Artists who meet the criteria will be invited to create a live painting on 3’ x 4’ stretched canvas during the weekend of Pride 2024 and paid a design fee of $1,000.

Advisory Panel will evaluate Artist submissions based on the criteria outlined below.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible applicants are Artists who:

  • Reside in the city of Toronto
  • Identify as 2SLGBTQ+
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Will be available to paint on June 28, 29 or 30, 2024
  • City of Toronto employees are not eligible to apply.

StART will provide the canvas, drop cloths, brushes and paints. Selected Artists will be responsible to bring any custom materials they may require to complete their canvas, themselves. 

Please note that StART is inviting participants to paint exclusively with the colour palette of the Inclusive Pride Flag.

Selected Artists who wish to prime or prep their canvas will be able to pick it up one week before Pride from a project Curator.

Aerosol artists are required to bring their own respirators. This is a mandatory requirement for artists using aerosol.

Selected artists will be notified on Friday, May 31st and will have until Wednesday, June 4th to accept.

  • Friday, 28th June 2024 | 9 pm - 10 pm
  • Saturday, 29th June 2024 | 3 pm - 4 pm | 5 pm - 6 pm|6 pm - 7 pm | 8 pm - 9 pm
  • Sunday, 30th June 2024 | 1 pm - 2 pm | 3 pm - 4 pm | 4 pm - 5 pm | 6 pm - 7 pm 

HOW TO APPLY

In order to apply to the Paint with Pride! StreetARToronto Art Call please submit the following materials using this application form:

  1. Artist’s full name and contact details (telephone, address and email, social media.)
  2. Multi Media Consent Form: I give the City of Toronto permission to photograph, videotape, audiotape and/or interview me, and to publish the recordings in City of Toronto publications/materials, including marketing and promotional materials, and the City of Toronto official Web site, both now and in the future. The recordings shall constitute the exclusive property of the City of Toronto and may be reproduced by the City and anyone it has authorized, without compensation or payment to the individual(s) being recorded or any other person.   3. A current artist CV or resume (simplified to one page), highlighting your most relevant qualifications.
  4. Description (maximum 300 words) to briefly explain how your body of work celebrates the unique character of Toronto and/or how it expresses the objectives described on page 1, and your experience (if any) doing live paintings and interacting with the general public.
  5. Three (3) samples of your most relevant artwork labeled with the date, title, location and medium. If you have done any live painting before, please feel free to upload one image that reflects it
  6. Confirmation that the information provided is accurate and truthful.

  • Demonstrated excellence of past work in projects of similar size (40%)
  • Artist qualifications related to this call (40%)
  • Proven capability to produce work and in a crowded public space (10%)
  • Completeness and clarity of submission (10%)
